It all starts with a dream.
Proficiency Training was first established as Whodini Elite Training. The name Whodini originated from owner Corinthian Carson’s Uncle Steve cousin Jimmy and other family and friends, who would travel around to different states and cities playing basketball in a tournament Known as the Gus Macker. A 3 on 3 street basketball tournament with teams of four players. People would pack the streets to watch some of the best 3 on 3 teams go at it. This original cast of Whodini members were known for multiple winning streaks, bringing home multiple first place trophies and were, and are, well known as Gus Macker legends in Carson’s hometown of Decatur, IL and in the Gus Macker Community. This tournament and the way Whodini played is what made Carson fall in love with the sport of basketball. It took a while for Carson’s generation to earn the name starting out losing in their first attempts.
Once Carson formed a team, consisting of his two brothers and three different cousins that alternated throughout the years, they earned the name Whodini winning back-to-back tournaments for 15+ years.
Proficient means to be skilled in something. Just like the name of his business, Carson spent countless hours in becoming skilled at what he does putting in the time and research in obtaining his Bachelors in Sports Science from West Virginia State University, an HBCU out of Institute, WV. He has been training since May 25th, 2015, becoming an NCSF (National Council of Strength and Fitness) Certified Personal Trainer. He is also a Certified Basketball Skill Enhancement Trainer through “I’m Possible” training w/ Micah "Lancaster and the “I’m possible community.
Proficiency Training focuses on basketball skills enhancement training as well as personal fitness training. We want to take in clients and athletes and prepare them in a mainstream sport/activity. Through dynamic programming and hands-on guidance, players will learn skill set, and the breakdown of basketball movement. Learn to play to their fullest potential and represent themselves at their respective schools or endeavors. From a personal training standpoint, we want to help improve clients looking for a healthier lifestyle, to reduce the risk of several health concerns.
“I am trying to bring the youth an experience that will motivate them to strive for success and to believe in what they are trying to achieve in an innovative atmosphere challenging athletes to dare to think different when it come to their training methods.
